What Exactly is a "Digital, Franchise-style" Business?

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

Have you ever wondered what a digital franchise-style business is all about?

When we talk about franchises, the big names that pop into our heads are usually Subway, McDonald's, Dairy Queen, Starbucks, Remax, UPS, and many others. These businesses work through a licensing system, where individuals or companies obtain the right to distribute goods and services under a well-known brand name, utilizing an established operating system and branding. The beauty of franchises lies in the fact that they offer a ready-made system with ongoing support, allowing business owners to thrive without reinventing

the wheel.

However, the downside is that these traditional franchises come with a hefty price tag, often in the hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars for the most successful brands. And when you invest that much, it can take years before you start seeing a return on your investment.

This is where digital-style franchises come into the picture.

Digital franchises provide a more affordable option for people looking to start their own business with many of the same advantages as a traditional franchise but without the high costs and a quicker path to profitability.

The "digital" part typically involves marketing and selling digital products online, such as e-books, video trainings, or educational materials, eliminating the need to carry physical inventory. Everything is done online. But it can also include physical products, where you can run the business entirely online, without dealing with inventory, physical storefronts, or substantial upfront expenses.

The "franchise-like" aspect means you receive a license to sell products that have already been created for you, earning commissions through a "done for you" proven system. You get a ready-made website, sales funnel, and ongoing support.

So, what are the benefits of this online, digital franchise-style business?

  1. No inventory to manage.

  2. Low startup costs – Just a fraction of the cost of a traditional franchise, ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on your goals and budget.

  3. Minimal overhead – Everything is online, so there's no rent, no mortgages, and no need for employees.

  4. International reach – Your market potential is vast; you're not confined to your local area as in traditional franchises.

  5. Automation – Many systems are designed to automate much of the sales process, from lead capture to sales presentations and email follow-ups. Plus, there's usually personal support available.

  6. You don't need to be a tech whiz to get started.

  7. Pre-built sales funnels and payment collection.

  8. Low risk – It's a turnkey system, often with coaching and support included at no extra cost.

  9. Quick start and profitability for the average person.

  10. Scalability at your own pace and within your budget.

Digital business is booming in the business world, and for good reason. Digital-style franchises open doors for everyday people to succeed without hosting home parties or pestering friends and family. These systems, along with training and coaching, offer real opportunities for success and personal freedom.

Personally, I've been involved in a few of these digital franchises. I've had commissions deposited into my bank account without ever leaving my home, purchasing inventory, or opening a storefront every morning. I didn't need to hire staff or manage shipping, merchant accounts, or credit card transactions.

The sweet spot for me is promoting a product I genuinely believe in and use myself, while also earning income by selling it and offering others the same opportunity.
