Many years ago, I saw a twitter post by a girl named Natalie Sisson who had a blog called The Suitcase Entrepreneur at the time. The post featured a video of her ending her run on a path overlooking the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, and while I can't remember what the actual video was specifically about, it spoke to her brand which essentially involved teaching people how to build a business from anywhere they wanted ...and boy did that video speak to me.
Now, aside from being awe inspired that she was building her business and recording the video from my favourite place in the world (Croatia), her video truly opened my eyes to possibilities.
Natalie did not have a boss. She wasn't trading hours for dollars. And while I don't doubt that she still worked hard to achieve this, ( I can attest to this in my own solo-preneur journey) she had what I wanted...
Freedom.
Fast forward to today. That twitter post I saw was actually long before Instagram, before TikTok, before AI and a ton of game-changing technical advancements that have appeared since then.
Now, there are more possibilities.
It's much simpler.
And more than ever... the type of freedom an online digital business can provide, that so many of us seek, is no longer just a dream, or a possibility but also a necessity.
I won't sugar coat it. A day job just isn't enough, it isn't guaranteed and if we've learned any lessons from a pandemic, inflation, rising interest rates and economic uncertainty in the world... then we must take proactive steps to diversify our income streams, build emergency savings, and continuously adapt our skills to remain resilient in an ever-changing economy.
And so I continue to write about home-business, solo-preneurship and digital style businesses as I am more passionate than ever about it.
So here it is in a nutshell... why you should consider a Digital Business Online:
Cost-Effective: A digital business is wallet-friendly. If you are thinking of starting a business at all, digital is the way to go. You can often begin with minimal investment, avoiding large expenses associated with physical stores, such as rent, utilities, and inventory.
Scalability: Digital businesses are inherently scalable. As your customer base grows, you can easily expand your operations without the significant overhead costs that come with scaling a traditional business. This means you can increase your revenue potential with relatively low incremental costs.
Time Freedom: Running a digital business offers unparalleled time freedom. You can set your own schedule and work at your own pace, allowing you to achieve a better work-life balance. This flexibility is especially beneficial for those juggling multiple responsibilities.
Location Freedom: One of the greatest advantages of a digital business is the freedom to work from anywhere. Whether you're at home, in a café, or traveling the world, as long as you have an internet connection, you can manage your business operations effectively.
Economic Necessity: In today’s economic environment, having an additional income stream is becoming increasingly essential. With rising prices and economic uncertainty, a digital business provides a viable way to supplement your primary income. This financial buffer can offer greater security and peace of mind in times of economic fluctuation.
The video post I saw years ago still resonates with me. Her message still rings true.
I googled the Suitcase Entrepreneur the other day and see that Natalie is still at it. She now has 2 best sellers on Amazon too ( The Suitcase Entrepreneur and The Freedom Plan ) Go Natalie!

I am considering a digital business. But I am afraid that everyone is doing this. Any suggestions of the market/niche that is not saturated already? I would like to start a side hustle to see how it goes.
