21 Day Blogging Challenge

I have been too sad to blog

Today’s  blog post is unprepared, unplanned but from the heart. Allow me today to be vulnerable, unfiltered and real about what I am feeling even if I may not be (temporarily) my usual positive self.

I haven’t written a blog post in a while primarily because some events over the last several weeks have made writing difficult and to be perfectly honest, have made life difficult. Frankly the idea of writing has been farthest from my mind as I watched, these last few weeks, tragic events transpire.

Even writing this now seems silly. What could I possibly say that would matter ?

A few weeks ago, my father passed away. It was something we expected but something that no one can ever truly prepare for, something that left my heart empty and yet at the same time reminded me how blessed I was to have him as a father in the first place. Nothing I can write could ever truly explain how I feel about that.

..and then several others in my community passed away as well. This dark cloud of sadness overwhelmed our community as we said our goodbyes to fathers, sons, husbands and daughters and even a small child.

And so it happens. Life ends. It does.

…and there is little that we can do about it.

The posts I write all of a sudden, seem silly.. unimportant.

This is not meant to be a religious post but I do have great faith that those who passed are in a better place, that it is God’s will and I find solace knowing that.

…. but I must admit that have been overwhelmed with sadness, not knowing what to do next.

I thought about what I normal blog about , the success tips I write, the solo-preneur tips, the words I share on dreaming big , setting goals and doing what it takes … and for just a moment, they seemed shallow and meaningless compared to the knowing that a young widow would now spend her days alone and the mother who had buried her second child way to soon, way too young. It all just seemed so wrong, like the natural order of things had been so gravely disrupted.

… and then came a reminder completely unanticipated from an unexpected source, a young teenage girl who had just lost her father. When we should have been comforting her, her powerful words comforted us. She spoke of her father and his advice on living life to the fullest. She spoke of his advice to his children to dream big and that the world was hers for the taking. His advice and his words had obviously had an impact on this young girl who chose to share this with us during the most difficult time.

I was reminded of why I write and why I do EVERYTHING I do – my own 4 kids and what I want to teach them. I was reminded of the duty I had to use my God given gifts and talents and to teach my children the importance of doing the same. I was reminded of the power of words and how sharing my insights may just reach someone that needs to hear them.

I am sad … I can’t help it. Life and death in its entirety is a mystery , one that we cannot completely understand. What I do know, however is the here and now and that I need and want to continue in my faith, be the best possible me I can be, the best possible mother I can be and share what I can with my family …and the world.

Measure your Success and Know the Score

Are you tracking where you are and where you want to be?

Know the score. Know your numbers. That’s Step 20 of my 21 Steps to Success Guaranteed To Change Your Life Forever.

As an entrepreneur with outrageous goals, I want to make sure that you are not only writing those outrageous goals down but measuring and mapping your success. Creating a visual representation of your personal progress is imperative in moving forward in your business.

My suggestion is to write out your 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 12 month goals. (you can break it down to monthly goals if it it makes more sense to your business)

Then chart where you are at 3 months, 6 months etc.

One of the main reasons for doing this is to quantify and assess what is working and what is not. As you progress, you will not only see where you are but know when you need to alter your methods, scale up when something is working or perhaps adjust your goals

The goals don’t need to be just financial goals. You can (and should) track goals and progress in other areas like the number of new clients, new leads, visitors to your sites.

Watching your own success and seeing that you are moving closer to your desired end result also creates confidence . Confidence creates action, action creates success habits, which create successes (results) which builds more confidence… and the cycle repeats itself.  This momentum cycle is a cycle you want to be in!

Knowing the score involves things like knowing how much one additional client is worth to you in revenue for the year or how much retaining that one client for a course of 3 years is worth in revenue. What activities would you focus on if retaining your clients was responsible for the majority of your income ?

measure-success-300x168Imagine for a moment you are playing a game or sport. Would you go about the game/ sport ‘hoping” that by the end of the game, you would have enough points to win the game or would you focus on the activities that were working on getting you the most points? Would you keep your strongest players on the bench and the weakest on the field?

Knowing the score, who’s on the team, how the points are tabulated and where you are in the game allows you to position yourself yourself to win!

Be Teachable and Listen To Mentors and Coaches

Be teachable.  Listen to mentors and coaches

This is Step 19 of my 21 Steps to Success Guaranteed to Change Your Life Forever.

What does being “teachable” really mean? Teachability, simply put,  is the ongoing willingness and openness to learn.

Being teachable means listening more than you talk and preach, being open to other people’s ideas, being open to change and new lessons and doing things differently.

This story about being teachable illustrates the importance :

A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master. While the master quietly served tea, the professor talked about Zen. The master poured the visitor’s cup to the brim, and then kept pouring. The professor watched the overflowing cup until he could no longer restrain himself. “It’s full! No more will go in!” the professor blurted. “This is you,” the master replied, “How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup.”

From: http://truecenterpublishing.com/zenstory/emptycup.html

Being teachable involves coming to the table with an empty glass…willing to fill it with new knowledge even when you think you have mastered it all. It involves a little humility and being vulnerable; admitting that you don’t know everything.

When you cease to be “teachable”, that’s when you stop growing, when you get stuck and when you fail to be a good leader.

My suggestion to you is to commit yourself to ongoing learning. Listen to coaches and mentors. Be open to new ideas. Come to the table with an empty cup. When you do this, it will be filled over and over again with a wealth of ideas and knowledge that you can put into practice and share with the world.

To your success and outrageous goals,

What Live Events Can Do For You

Go to live events with like-minded people. This is a game changer. Trust me.

When you run a business from home and rely heavily on email, social media and webinars, it is easy to get comfortable using these platforms alone. Getting out to networking events, seminars and conferences often fails to be a priority.

In my journey of improving myself and helping improve the lives of others, I was given a some advice that I wholeheartedly agree with and that is to attend as many live events in my industry as humanly possible. I was told it would  change my business and my life forever and here’s why:

Events take you out of your comfort zone. Getting too comfortable is easy. Why change what’s working for you right? Truth is, to grow, learn and achieve massive success, you need to get out of that comfort zone. You need to be constantly stretching yourself and doing new things to propel your business forward. When you do this, you’ll realize as well that what you thought was working for you was in fact not really working for you.

Events allow you to tap into the power of the mastermind. You have  heard the expression “ two heads are better than one”. What about thousands of heads?  Wouldn’t it be great to mastermind with thousands of others who are all cheering for you to succeed?

Events are fun. Happiness is essential to success.

Learning at a live event is 100 fold better than any e-course or webinar. It’s interactive. The energy is different. You are introduced to ideas and people that can provide you with the breakthrough you are waiting for. Stuck in your biz? Live events are where you get unstuck.

Potential partners are at live events.

Leaders and successful people are at live events. Imagine speaking to and learning from millionaire mentors,  people who have achieved what you wish to achieve.

The ‘energy’ at live events cannot help but to inspire, motivate and change your vibration and catapult your success.

To your success and outrageous goals,
